Part 77 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

I missed my date with the sunset last night. I was watching a vlog I follow and then time jumped forward an hour in between blinks. I hate it when time does that. I hadn’t even done a jump to the left.

After Daughter was safely at work, I nuked a burrito, ate, read two pages of a book and then I got Bounced. Time slipped again… no step to the right either.

After the Bounce and a ten second cuddle, a booming voice commanded “Gramma come living room!” right in my ear. I think I prefer the sniffing.

I stumbled out and sorta fell onto the couch. Ben said “Gramma? Tiny, yellow, Distributed By. Like this.” I was gonna pinch myself but what’s the point when you know you’re not dreaming? I looked at the time… 4am. And so begins another day at Casa Cuckoo.

We did random Arts and Crafts in between me reminding him to plug the tablet in. It was dead, dead, dead this morning because he’d left three apps running and the dang plug wasn’t even in the same neighborhood. We have two portable chargers and he’d run them both down since he’d been up and the tablet battery hadn’t been out of single digits.

Time dragged by until the alarm for his meds went off. I did the things, uncovered Sven and turned his lights on.

he moved just enough to make it impossible to see his face. it’s like he doesn’t want me to take pictures.

Sven is still brumating… lucky dragon! Daughter texted when she finished work and got a ride home from a coworker. Zeus forgot about being quiet and waiting. He did the whiney wiggle then started barking. All because Daughter was trying to tell me something. We got the Big Dumb Loudmouth to hush, yadda yadda yadda, Ben decided not to go to Daughter’s room today. No Horizontal Time for Gramma…

Most of the morning was spent with words. New words, old words, cut out, rearranged, taped together… and always looked at with the scrunched up, side-eye squint, and with the word held out at different distances. He was really mellow at least.

I almost lost my cool a few times with the interruptions. I was doing my thing, or trying to, reading and commenting on posts, reading emails, sending emails…stuff. At one point I told him if he kept interrupting me and asking me to do the same thing over and over, my head was gonna explode and then he’d have yucky pieces of Gramma all over him. He just gave me a blank look and said “I need tape.” So I gave him tape.

Meds were given when the alarms went off, straws were inserted into Capri Suns when requested, I pretty much did what HRH commanded. It was overcast with a nice breeze all morning, so that was nice too.

At 12:30 he found a different movie and decided I needed to write new words. I think even he was getting a little tired of it, because he only had me do a few. Or maybe he was afraid my head really was going to explode, cuz he was looking at me in a weird way…

I heard Daughter’s alarm go off at 1:30, but when she still hadn’t come to relieve me at 2:10, I went to her room to see if she was still sleeping. She was awake, sitting on the side of her bed, messing with her phone. She said “I’ll be right there.” I turned and went back to the living room.

Ben asked me to draw a moon… a blue moon. I asked him what kind of blue moon? He just kept telling me to draw a blue moon, so I got the blue marker and made a crescent and a circle. He looked at me and said “DreamWorks moon.” Ah… thank you, yes. I was pretty sure that’s what he wanted, but he needs to be able to communicate with people beside me.

I drew the DreamWorks moon logo for him. Not a spectacular job, but I tell him all time that I suck at drawing and it’s been a while since his last DreamWorks phase. I was out of practice.

Daughter did come out to the living room about five minutes after I went to her room. It took her another five or ten minutes to use the bathroom, get something to drink and arrange her stuff. I was still drawing. Unimpressed with my moon logo, Ben asked me to draw “Ben Fishing… just Ben fishing.” My third attempt was deemed satisfactory and I was instructed to cut it out, which I did. Then I gathered my stuff and went to lay down. It was around 2:30pm and I had been on living room duty since 4am.

In my room, immediately Horizontal, I wrote an email, but kept nodding off while trying to write it. It was to a friend so I explained the shortness, sent it and closed my eyes. I was awoken around 4:30 by Ben, doing something, really loudly. It was one of those mini-panic awakenings. It took me a good minute or two to figure out what was going on, where Ben was, where Daughter was, what day it was…

I’m still really tired but I have to stay awake. It’s getting to be dinner then bath and bedtime. After Ben and Daughter are in bed, I have to go up to the pharmacy and get Ben’s Adderall prescription filled. He’s out now and we got the prescription in the mail finally. I admit that I like how well it calms him down in the morning. But, ugh… public, mask… shoes!

Tonight’s song was brought to my attention by our very own Paula as part of a comments chat. I didn’t recognize the name of the song, but when I looked it up and played it, I remembered it. A great song! Thank you, Paula (Ms Kanga)!

Thanks for hanging out on this long, dull day. It was busy for me, writing words, but not much else happened. We need chill days though. And my day isn’t quite over… I’ll let you know tomorrow how the pharmacy trip goes. See ya tomorrow.

HUGS!!

  2. I love that song! I’m going to have to listen to it now – I’m excited! Wow, that is a really long time to have living room duty. And it is not like you can relax as you just have to keep doing things for Ben (and do them right) while keeping your cool. I swear you do deserve a cape! Hope you have a great day!

    1. Exhausted is my “new normal”☹ I feel fuzzy and thick all the time, but I gotta keep putting one foot in front of the other. Take my little 15 minute “long blinks”😉😴💌

  3. With a jump to the left and a step to the right you win my heart once again with a movie reference.

But I’ll pass as well on the exploding Gramma bits. You’re pretty swell, but I’m not sure I want you all over me. Wait, I think I said that on a blind date once… 😉
