The Monday Peeve

Paula over at Light Motifs II has a new Monday prompt. Here’s how she describes it, copy/pasted

“Smiles and positive posts are all well and good, but sometimes I need to vent a bit. How about you? That’s what The Monday Peeve is all about, a chance to blow off a little steam at the beginning of the week, so then we can go merrily on our way once again (hah). I’ll pick a topic that’s on my mind, but you can vent about whatever you please, here in comments or on your own blog. Grab the photo, use the #TMP tag, and link back to me (or not ~ I dgaf), and Bob’s yer uncle. I do reserve the right to delete any links that offend my delicate sensibilities. So far, none have, but it could happen! I have feelings!”

You can read about her experience with Mariachi music blasting outside her window at the link. I had a similar experience yesterday evening and I welcome the opportunity to vent a little.

My bedroom window has a lovely view of the parking lot for the corner market/taco shop/pizza joint. The noise of cars, people talking (or screaming and fighting), even the delivery trucks is something that I’ve gotten used to in the nine years I’ve lived here. I mean, it’s a three bedroom house with a huge yard for $1500 a month in SoCal?!?! Trust me, its cheap. I can handle the associated background noises. Its white noise. Occasionally, like last night for example, a noise shatters my zen.

It was the end of a very hot, Ben at home, weekend. Younger daughter had finally returned my car after four days and I had returned from the grocery store. I was tired, hot still at 8:30pm and ready to chillax. Ben and Older Daughter were both asleep and the house was all mine.

I made myself some mini-corndogs to munch on, loaded up my book on the Kindle, shooed the cat away from my food and got comfy. Then a motorcycle went by and set off the alarm on a car in the parking lot. It went off for about thirty seconds and stopped.

About ten minutes later, a car with thumping bass went by and, yep, set off the car alarm. I can feel my zen slipping a bit, but all the shops close early Sunday night so I figure whoever the car belongs to will be leaving soon.

HA! That $@*&$%×!! alarm went off periodically all night (it just went off again as I’m writing this)! Someone from one of the apartments down the street decided to leave their car parked in the lot overnight. I understand parking is hard to find, especially when families are having to share homes because of the ridiculous cost of living, but do they have to set the sensitivity of their alarms so high?

We’re not talking about a Porsche, Ferrari or Lamborghini here. It’s a random generic car. It drives me completely into “Linda Blair” mode when a car alarm is just going off, and going off, and going off. I wish someone would steal the dang car so I could have some quiet!

So, that’s my peeve for this week. Unattended cars with super sensitive alarms. Thanks Paula for letting me vent!
